Summer Done Right
As soon as school lets out for the summer, my sister and my great-nephew W come for a visit. We do a little sight-seeing, a little swimming, some chores with the animals, and lots of snacking.
This year my husband decided W was old enough for a fishing lesson. After about five minutes of fruitless casting, I was about to say, “Why don’t you cast for him and just let him reel it in?” Just then W let the rod dip down into the water right by the dock, and a fish took the lure!
We had several exciting minutes of reeling in the catch; then pride turned to doubt as W realized he had to get the fish off the hook somehow. (My husband stepped up and took care of that tricky detail.)
And then of course, even though the fish were out there biting like crazy, no one else even got a nibble!
For the 1 Day 1 World Project, 6:00 – 7:00 pm. I didn’t do anything new for this post, but my nephew did!

What a wonderful day! I’m sure W will remember this the rest of his life. I think you and your sister will remember it forever, too.
Here’s our conversation –
Me: Do you think you’ll remember this all of your life?
w: No.
Me: Really? When you’re 20, you won’t remember this?
W: No. (pause) When I’m 100.
Me: You won’t remember at 20, but you will remember when you’re 100. What will you be so busy thinking about when you’re 20?
w: Baseball.
So I guess he won’t have time to remember it, until his baseball career is long past. 🙂
