Photos from the Dark
For the 1 Day 1 World Project, we are at the hour of 11 pm – 12 am.
I had seen a photography idea of going out at night and shooting close-ups of plants with the flash, so I decided to try that. (It’s not something that really represents my normal 11 pm hour, but I am using this project to do things a little out of the ordinary for me.)
The pictures showed a lot of detail, but I didn’t think they were very interesting. But when editing them, I noticed this caterpillar chomping away at my pokeweed plant. I use pokeberries for natural dye – but the caterpillar is welcome to the leaves!
Maybe your caterpillar is starting to store up for the fall/winter head!! Na, just eating and enjoying himself I’m sure. Interesting photo – I’ll have to try that myself.
Yes, in three months, we might be cool!
The pictures come out very dramatic against the black background – I think you could do some fun things with PhotoShop filters afterward too.
What a fun find!
It has been a summer full of snakes around here – but I never find them at the right hour for the project! 🙂
I’d rather look at a fuzzy caterpillar than a snake anyway. 🙂
Now there’s a thought. Maybe I can find those pesky slugs and snails chomping my plants at night… no snakes though. I don’t want to find snakes.

The other evening I was feeding the ducks, and i went back and forth between their pen and my shed twice – and THEN I saw a copperhead two feet away from me. I had to have stepped right over him four times. I’m not afraid of snakes and usually keep my eyes open for them, but that was a little discombobulating. 🙂
A copperhead on YOUR farm. Well, you can tell your husband he no longer has to worry about building that little mother-in-law house! Wait a minute. If the snake didn’t move perhaps it was fake and Bill knew that all it would take was mention of a snake to deny him the pleasure of having your mother close by!
Great photos! This so reminds me of the time I had two similar caterpillars in a box lined with leaves, for observation. It was a magical moment when they emerged as beautiful butterflies out of their golden cocoons…
Thank you! Not quite in the same category of Stunning Wildlife Photography that you and your dad achieve though! 🙂
