Where the Wild Things Are
Kerry at Loving Hands At Home got me thinking with her lovely post about her affection for her home. What do I love best about my home? That it is a place where the wild things can still roam.
I share my home with all kinds of creatures, and I notice new things every day.

A great blue heron can look so magnificent one minute…

…and downright goofy the next.

But what gorgeous colors when the sun catches its bill!

A red-shouldered hawk can also look a little less than imposing…

…and who knew a turkey vulture’s feathers were so gorgeous?

A cocoon of wild silk on a bare branch…

…will release a Polyphemus moth…

…with feathery antennae.

A forgotten pod explodes…

… into white fireworks of milkweed seeds.
Wherever I am, I am at home if I can just get outside and walk with wild things.

those are great images of some of the wild things. They really are amazing.
Gorgeous……..another reminder of what is surrounding us IF we just have eyes to see!!! Hugs…….
Just love the heron’s tongue. Alas, the wild things around my house right now are sparrows, jays, cardinals, and deer. And it’s too cold to go out to get their pictures.
I like all the wild things you have too! But I’m with you, it’s better to wait until it’s warmer to go out and take pictures. Texas weather is not really COLD, just cool, but I still use it as an excuse to stay inside and read and weave and quilt.
I’m so glad my post led you to this!! Your photos are just awesome–and so is your sensitivity to the beauty and variety around you, Without that your camera wouldn’t be much help!
Thank you. You are so kind! Your post really made me think about all the things I love about my home, outside and inside.
Lovely post! Your photos are beautiful!
Love your great blue heron – what pretty colors. It’s it something how “ordinary” these creatures can seem until we take a picture of them and “walla”…these gorgeous colors appear. I love this time of year as if we’d just stop, look and listen to the wonders all around us, we’d be so surprised at what’s out there.
I got a new camera with an amazing zoom, and I am having so much fun using it and then the computer to see details I can’t ordinarily see. I have had bad vision all my life so I am so grateful for this enhanced view!
