Bright Blocks for Gray Days

About five years ago, the coordinator of my quilting group was cleaning out leftovers from group projects, and I took home some of those scraps, including some tiny little nine-patches that were only three inches square.

Scrap blocks. The bright green is a little more muted in real life.

We are having one of those dull weeks, where it is humid and overcast all day long, but never storms, and I really needed to work with some bright colors.ย  I was inspired by a layout in Tula Pink’s City Sampler, and I loved her idea of creating six-inch blocks with simple, bold graphics.ย  I didn’t consult her actual block designs, I just started putting the scraps together in ways they fit.

Sometime in the future, I plan to put these blocks together into a crib quilt, based on Tula Pink’s layout “City Planner.” which has strips of white and gray behind the brightly colored blocks.
