Another String Theory Quilt
This is another quilt based on Sharon Tucker’s String Theory pattern, which was in the April 2017 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting.
The original pattern had nine big blocks. Each block started with a central square, and then built out with alternating rows of scraps and solids for a total of five go-rounds, and I followed that pattern with the first two I made. Now I am doing just four g0-rounds, and I like it just as well.
What I love about this pattern is that I can sit and mindlessly sew lots of scraps together, and then later, cross cut them into the dimension I need.

Then the whole strip is added, log cabin fashion. No need to measure, I just trim off the extra bits after sewing.
We have a little love seat that is still sturdy, but the fuzzy upholstery fabric isn’t that comfortable to sit on. This little quilt fits it perfectly, and I think it adds a nice touch of autumn to our sitting area.

It is a nice throw for autumn. That sofa looks really cosy!
Thanks, Aggie, it is a good place to settle in and catch up on blog posts! 🙂
That is a great, flexible pattern!! Well done!!
That’s awesome 👍
Another wonderful quilt and great use of scraps!
yes! I’m in favor of patterns that allow me to just mindlessly sew scraps together! And your quilt turned out well.
Thanks, Mary! And after doing many many of these scrappy square blocks, I feel ready to branch out into some stars. 🙂
Yay for scrappy quilts, and your latest is perfect for the season! I’d like to hunker down under that with a good book!
You made me think of another advantage of this quilt — if I spill tea or hot cocoa on it, it won’t show at all! 🙂
PERFECT place for the quilt! Looks like it was made especially for it.
Thistle be a beautiful day!
While there is tea there is hope!
