ScrapHappy February 2026
Well, my 2026 project of reducing my fabric stash a bin at a time has not been successful so far. First I got a weird respiratory infection that sapped all my energy, so I got no quilting done in January. And then my stash was actually increased, when one quilting friend gave me a lovely package full of vintage linens, and another gave me three shoeboxes full of beautiful scraps!
One big group of scraps was autumn fabrics, and I was inspired to make some scrappy maple leaf blocks. These are 18″ square. Each one starts with three 6.5″ crumb blocks, and I will admit those do take time to make, as you sit and choose which tiny scraps will fit together. I could have made the half-square-triangles at leaf’s edge scrappy as well, but to save time, I chose to make all those from one fabric, so the rest of the block came together quickly.
I have enough fabric for two more blocks, and I think I will turn it into a wall hanging.
ScrapHappy Day is the 15th of each month, organized by the kind Kate Chiconi. It is a fun day to visit blogs and see what creative projects everyone has come up with!

Very good work.
Well, you made some progress anyway; going to have to call it good! And reducing a whole bin at a time was kind of an ambitious goal anyway 😀
Glad you are on the mend, that respiratory illness is a nasty bug! I love your scrappy leaves!
Sorry to hear about your January. But this work has made up for it. I love the single stripe on one square. And I like the fall colors.
I’m sorry you were ill in January. That saps your energy for a time.
Your blocks turned out nicely. Keep enjoying the creative side of things.
Oh how awful…..I cannot image a resp infection like that. You were very gracious how you accepted the fabric gifts…… I love the Maple Leaves in Autumn colours. Very innovative and real!
Take care of yourself.
Hugs, me
Thistle be a beautiful day!
While there is tea there is hope!
I am beginning to think that scraps breed – no matter how many are used up the boxes are always full! Piecing small scraps is a long job. Yopur blocks look lovely.
Sorry to read about your respiratory infection and how dare it interfere with your scrap reduction plans!
How can you turn down several shoeboxes of beautiful scraps? The same thing happens to me when I try to cull the herd of fabric scraps at my house. I like your scrappy pieced leaves 🙂
I hope you are better now. These are beautiful blocks and very autumnal 🙂
The blocks look great!
