Some Quilts Finally Finished
This year everything fell into place for me to start working with a longarm quilter, and I am loving it. No more trying to wrestle a large quilt through a small machine, no more basting! Quilt tops had been piling up around here and it is wonderful to get them finished.
Here are the first three I have gotten back:

This cowboy-themed quilt was started in September of 2021. Quilted by Patti Roebuck.
Then there are two similar ones:

Red and yellow String Theory quilt, started in March 2022.

Blue and cream String Theory quilt, started June 2023.
Both of those quilts were based on a pattern called “String Theory,” by Sharon Tucker, which was in American Patchwork and Quilting, in April of 2017. I like this pattern so much that I have done it in two more colorways, which are currently being quilted.
When I posted the blue and cream version in June of 2023, I noticed that one corner block was just way too blue, so I replaced it.
Turning these quilts over to a professional has been a load off my mind. I have so much fabric that was donated to me, and I feel pressure to use it up and turn it into useful items. I love to piece simple patterns as a stress reliever, but then the tops just sit there and I rarely have the mental energy to tackle basting them, let alone deciding on a quilting design, and trying to get them quilted smoothly. And knowing that a professional will be taking them on has encouraged me to make bigger tops than I would want to deal with on my own. I am thrilled to be getting so many quilts finished this year!

I’m so glad you’ve found working with a long armer to be helpful. I much prefer having my large quilts quilted by my longarmer (she’s also a very dear friend). Your quilts look great, and I think I need to remember that string theory design – so fun!
Yes, I am really sorry I didn’t go with a longarmer earlier, but now I am having the fun of getting many quilts finished at once. 🙂
I love that string theory pattern — the solid strips interspersed with the scrappy strips make pressing easier, and if my corners don’t match up perfectly, the pattern is so busy that you really can’t tell. 🙂
Sometimes we have to admit that there are jobs we really don’t enjoy and which spoil the pleasure of the bits we do like doing. All those UFOs become a burden. So well done for getting help.
You have summed up my feelings beautifully and concisely– thank you! 🙂
Well done.
Yes! I absolutely couldn’t make all the quilts I do without a good longarm quilter or two! Glad you found someone!
Knowing that you use a longarm quilter was one of the things that made me consider it! I will never be as prolific as you are, but at least now I should get quilts done in less than 7 years after I start one! 🙂
I’m so happy for you! It feels good seeing things through, especially when you can hand off the challenging or tedious part to someone with the right equipment and skills.
So true! My quilting aspirations are bigger than my sewing machine can handle! 🙂
I’m working on an Ocean Waves quilt right now for my brother, and I am looking forward to having a professional quilter do the quilting for me. It feels so good to see a quilt well finished off.
I love the star and horseshoe quilting! So perfect for the quilt.
Oh, that will be beautiful! I look forward to seeing it!
Congratulations on those finishes of the lovely quilts!
Thanks, Tierney, I am just so glad to have them completed!
Those are HAPPY quilts. The kind that makes you feel happy when you look at them. 🙂
Thank you, that is what I aim for, just something that looks cheerful. 🙂
I love the simplicity of the cowboy quilt! Great idea for all the huge extended family quilts I need to make.
These are wonderful finishes and I can imagine what a bonus it must be to find a longarm quilter. It’s definitely the quilting that puts me off making more quilts 🙂
I totally agree! It would be nice to bring each quilt to completion with a layer of quilting that added interest, but it is so hard to move them around through a domestic machine. Maybe I will still practice pretty quilting designs on small projects, but I do love just concentrating on piecing too. 🙂
