Quilts for the Four Seasons
I had gotten these four back from the long-arm quilter in February. This week I went on a binding binge and I got them finished up! All of them are made primarily from scraps.

A quilt for each season.

Spring quilt. This one is about 64 inches square; it will be donated.

Summer quilt. This one is about 65″ by 80″.

Fall quilt, about 60 inches square.

Christmas quilt. This is also about 60 inches square.
My long-arm quilter, Patti Roebuck, chooses the thread and quilting pattern that she thinks will complement the top. In this batch, I particularly liked her choice of a pale gold thread to quilt the Christmas fabrics.
The summer quilt has this gentle curving pattern for the quilting.
A pale gold thread was used on the Christmas quilt.
The leaf quilt has a strong diamond pattern for the quilting.
The back of the Christmas quilt is this cute penguin in flannel.
The back of the pink quilt is white with lots of pink dots. I like the way you can see the pieces of the front when the sun is shining through.
I am happy to have these finished, and now I can reward myself by going on to a new project!
Four quilts done! That has to feel good!
Yes, I am so far behind on what I thought I would accomplish this year, so it feels great to have something finished!
One of our blogging friends (maybe Claire?) told me gold thread goes with (almost) everything, and I’ve found she’s right. You have a nice variety of quilts there!
I hope I remember that tip to use gold thread. I really like the way it looks in that quilt.
Hey, great job! Binding is work! I am not a fan of Pink but I really, really like your pink one. Must be how you combined other colours with it. And I agree, nice gold thread choice.

Thistle be a beautiful day!
While there is tea there is hope!
I am not a huge fan of so much pink either, but I hope it will go to someone who does love pink and just squeals with joy when they see it. 🙂
Squeals with joy, I loved that haha

This is a great collection of quilts. Congrats on getting them all finished up. I’m looking forward to seeing what you choose for your new project 🙂
Thanks, Janine, I am so glad to have some finishes for this year!
I love how you used triangles in the corners of three of the quilts–what a nice finish! I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before.
I love scrap quilts, and I love traditional quilts. These are great, and all so different!
Hey, Andrea, good to see you!
I learned how to make a quilt facing, rather than a binding, from this article . Basically you take small folded squares and sew them to the corners, then you take folded 2.5 strips and sew them to the sides of the quilt, then you flip everything over to the opposite side and stitch down. It’s like a binding, but you don’t have to prep the entire binding length as you do for regular binding. In the article, they show how to fold the facing completely to the back side so it doesn’t show, but I like it to show, so I usually do the initial stitching to the back, and then flip everything to the front, so the triangles become another detail. I just love this method because I don’t have to prep a long length of binding. 🙂
All 4 are GREAT quilts!!
Congratulations!!
Frances
Thanks, Frances! None of them are very complicated but I do love getting some fabric used up! 🙂
A “binding binge” – love it! Congrats on all the finishes and now having these lovely quilts in your collection 🙂
Love the finished quilts (congrats!) and love the reward: another project to start! There is something so lovely about that. Do you ever find yourself itching to have a say in the pattern/thread for your quilting? I think it’s nice that she’s so good at picking both. Again, congratulations!
Hi Elizabeth! I would like to choose pattern and thread sometime, but most of my quilts are just simple blocks made of donated fabric, and they are going to be donated. For years I tried quilting myself on a domestic machine, but I didn’t enjoy it so the tops built up. It was only last year that I started using a long-arm quilter, and mostly I am just so glad to get everything quilted up. If I ever did make a special quilt (like your beautiful Shine pattern!), I would seek out a custom quilter. I just stitch for stress relief, I don’t do anything challenging. 🙂
