Why I Never Get Anywhere Fast
Distractions abound….
I found this grub in the compost pile back in December. I kept it in a jar of dirt until it metamorphosed into an ox beetle.

Male rainbow scarab beetle
What gorgeous iridescence!
Wolf spider with egg sac.
Even a tomato hornworm is gorgeous close-up.
Banded argiope
White-striped longtail butterfly from above.
American crow
For my money, the song of the Carolina wren is one of the prettiest around.
Coral bean
I think this white-tailed deer really wants to join the sheep.
I think this is a white-striped longtail – which has lost its tail to a predator!
This ox beetle is what the giant grub turned into after 5 months.
So many pictures to take, so many things to research….

Is that horn beetle/rhinoceros beetle the one you let hatch (or whatever it is that grubs do)? Or is that a dead beetle you found?
The scarab beetle with the horn and iridescent colors was one I just found dead. The ox beetle has a little horn and is twice as big as a June bug (at least) and it hatched from the grub.
Yes because of nature’s beauty there is always distraction. Be A Blessing because you’re Blessed. Mtetar
I love your view of that! You are right!
Thanks and you’re welcome. Be A Blessing because you’re Blessed. Mtetar
I do appreciate your appreciation for such details of life, but I was a little squicked out, too. 😉 Wolf spiders are poisonous, yes? Do you have to worry about them getting in the house?
Well, if they did, I’m sure the black widows and scorpions would get them! 🙂 Let’s just say I never walk around barefoot and I always looks where I am reaching.
Actually, the only poisonous spiders we have around here are black widows and brown recluse. I have been within inches of black widows and they never came after me!
I love your phrase “squicked out!”
